To perform tree care services in New Jersey, a tree service company must be registered with the New Jersey Board of Tree Experts.

Every business engaged in providing tree care services for hire in New Jersey must register biennially with the Board as a condition of doing business in New Jersey. This includes businesses that are located outside New Jersey, yet perform tree care services in the state.

Depending upon the services a business provides, it may be required to have either a Licensed Tree Expert or a Licensed Tree Care Operator as an employee.

The Licensed Tree Care Operator (LTCO) is for companies that only provide standard tree care work like pruning, removals, and stump grinding.

The Licensed Tree Expert (LTE) is permitted to oversee standard tree work and more specialized work such as cabling and bracing, tree risk assessment, tree appraisals, and consultations.

Always check that any company you hire to do tree work in New Jersey has the appropriate license to do the work you need.

Why is this important?

Licensees must abide by the following industry standards:

  • ANSI A300 American National Standard for Tree Care Operations – Tree, Shrub, and Other Woody Plant Management including Parts 1-10
  • ANSI Z60.1 American Standard for Nursery Stock
  • ANSI Z133 Safety Standards for Arboriculture Operations
  • OSHA Federal Motor Coach Safety
  • FHA regulations set forth in Z133
  • Each of the Best Management Practices published by the ISA

Licensees must also abide by the Canons of Professional Ethics and Standards of Conduct for Licensees.

Free estimates are typically not “scheduled,” but we will provide you with a timeframe to expect us. Using the information you provide over the phone or online, our estimator will come out to inspect the property and provide a quote

Yes, we are fully insured for all services we provide. We carry additional umbrella policies and carry a higher limit than most local companies. We also maintain workers' compensation insurance for all our employees.

We are fully insured and are very happy to say we have never had to submit a claim. However, we understand accidents do happen, and should we damage or break something due to our negligence, we will be quick to make things right and repair it.

We will not leave large ruts, gouges, or damage. There may be a certain amount of disruption that is unavoidable, such as slight depressions under mats on very soft soils, although we strive to make it look as if we were never there.

We will work with you to reduce your liability. It is important that you disclose as much information as possible, including the locations of septic systems or underground tanks in known undermined or deteriorated conditions. It’s important that the property
owner maintains insurance for unforeseen circumstances that are beyond our control.

Most towns and cities in NJ all have their own separate tree ordinance. As these ordinances are continually updated, changed and new sections adopted, we keep a comprehensive list of permit requirements for all municipalities that we service.

We are happy to help you through the permit process and only charge a small administrative fee for completing the permit.

When you call our office for a free estimate (or submit a request online), our staff will take all the required information. This will include:

  • Your name
  • Address
  • Best daytime phone number
  • Email (for us to send our quote to)
  • Description of the work you like quoted

Please keep in mind all directions (left, right, front, rear) are conveyed as if you were facing your house with your back to the street.

From there, we will create your client file, and you will be added to our estimate list. Typically, most free estimates are provided within 3-5 business days. Please be sure to inform us of any restrictions, such as locked gates and pets.

For on-site consultations, the process is the same, with the addition of a contract for the consultation that will be sent to you and a visit that will be scheduled once the contract is approved.

We accept checks, cash, money orders, and credit cards. We also offer financing to help you pay for your service over time.

Did You Know?

New Jersey’s state tree is the majestic red oak. Its scientific name is Quercus borealis, and it was selected as the official tree of the Garden State back in 1950.

This beautiful tree grows up to 70 feet in height, has beautiful red fall foliage, and provides a habitat and food to a number of our New Jersey critters, including squirrels and birds!
